Overview
Martin Energy Group (MEG), in collaboration with a customer, has engineered custom Mobile Battery Energy Storage System (MBESS) designed specifically for their needs. This trailer-mounted battery unit delivers clean, quiet, and reliable power in remote environments, and can support black-start operations, peak shaving, and backup power for critical infrastructure.
This mobile BESS delivers 1.0 MW of power for 90 minutes, backed by a 1.5 MWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery bank. The system is liquid-cooled for optimal thermal performance and includes a Battery Management System (BMS) for real-time monitoring of cell health and safety. Power is delivered through a 690VAC internal bus, which is stepped up to 13.8kV via an onboard transformer, enabling compatibility with industrial equipment and grid infrastructure. The system supports reverse feed charging and includes an auxiliary 480V charging input, offering flexible recharging options in the field.
At the core of the system is a custom-programmed control system by MEG, which manages black-start sequencing, load balancing, and synchronization with generators, other BESS units, and the grid. The inverter platform enables bidirectional power flow and seamless integration across multiple power sources, supporting both grid-tied and islanded operation. A roof-mounted solar UPS system supplements the unit with 1.6 kW of solar generation, featuring Bluetooth-enabled monitoring, dual 3500W inverter/chargers, and 48V battery storage. This integrated system provides clean, quiet, and reliable power for remote operations, reducing diesel reliance and ensuring uptime in critical environments.
