Battery Energy Storage System

Output: 1 MW / 1.5MWh
Industry: Bottling Plant
Location: Cayey, Puerto Rico

Battery Energy Storage System for Microgrid Resiliency

Martin Energy Group has deployed a 1MW air-cooled battery energy storage system (BESS) as part of a comprehensive microgrid solution supporting a bottling plant. This battery system plays a critical role in ensuring power reliability and operational continuity, especially in scenarios where multiple combined heat and power (CHP) units may fail simultaneously.

Located on a site with six CHP units delivering a total output of 6.6 MW, the battery provides essential backup power and enhances the overall resiliency of the energy infrastructure. In the event of engine failure, the battery automatically discharges to maintain uninterrupted power supply. When the CHP engines are operating normally, the battery recharges using excess energy from the system, ensuring it’s always ready to respond when needed.

The entire microgrid has been engineered to operate in Island Mode, allowing for utility independence when needed. Martin Energy Group expertly coordinated the integration and control systems, enabling fully automated and remotely monitored operations. This ensures seamless transitions and reliable performance around the clock.

Operating 24/7 nearly year-round, the site consistently delivers clean and efficient energy to support the bottling plant’s production needs.
